Pretty Dirty

Hey all,

It’s no surprise that Character Nine has been quiet for a little while, but I thought I’d share some update about what we’ve been unto since the the last time we played out.  Also, It’s a little ridiculous that “We’re Coming To Boston” has been the first post on this site for coming on two years. Unacceptable!

Ladies & Gentlemen, peep this:  Pretty Dirty

Pretty Dirty Music

Samantha Farrell, Jon Crowe, Chris DeSanty, Pete Durning

Jon & Desant are working with the lovely and talented Samantha Farrell & Pete Durning to create gritty soulful jams with deep groves and steamy vocals.  They’ve played a few shows at Arlene’s Grocery and Rockwood Music Hall, and they’ve been hard at work on a debut EP.  Here’s a taste…

Annnnnnd this:

Is that foxy or what!?!

Stay tuned here and on The Pretty Dirty Facebook Page for more updates on the Boot Stompin’ EP.  You can also check back here for updates on other C9 projects and side projects as they drop.

the wind-up | You Are A Beautiful Thing

Our friends, the wind-up, have been gracing NYC stages for the last year, steadily building momentum towards the release of their debut album, You Are a Beautiful Thing (2010).

The album is a treat. Energetic, original, fun, and liberally adorned with magnetic hooks thoughtfully layered by engineer/producer (and bassist) Matt Bernstein. The deep and impressive recording is a testament to the blood, sweat, and tears poured into it. No one could ever guess that the bulk of the work came out of a home studio featuring a closet for an isolation booth. By splurging on a Manley Labs mic pre, and a kickass mastering session at The Lodge, the wind-up delivered an exceptional record for a fraction of what it would have cost a less resourceful, less talented band. Kudos.

Although the band has encouraged fans to rip, burn, and share their album with others, I’d rather point you in the direction of their page on Bandcamp where you grab it for free or kick them a few bucks to support a promising young band when they need it the most.

They’re good friends and lot of fun to gig with so you’ll definitely hear more about them here on CharacterNine.com. For more information and direct updates, you should check out their website. Let us know what you think in the comments, and we’ll be sure to pass it along.

Character Nine + Cassini: 02.24.10

On Wednesday, February 24th we have the honor of sharing the stage with one of our band’s major musical influences – John Hogg, formerly of the band Moke.

At an acoustic show a few months back we covered one of Hogg’s songs “Rockstar,” and posted the video online. In December we went to see him play in New York and struck up a conversation after the set. Sure enough, he had seen our video of his song and remembered “Character Nine” by name. The exchange was surreal and humbling. At the end of the night, he suggested that we play a show together when he was back in town, and here we are.

Character Nine & Cassini - Live @ Arlene's Grocery 2/24/10

Please take a second to mark this one down in your calendars. We’ll be taking the stage at 9PM to warm it up for John’s band Cassini at 10. If you’ve ever trusted a musical recommendation from Character Nine, you are going to want to come to this show and see them do their thing.

In the meantime, you can watch him on youtube. Here’s one of our personal favorites Down performed with Moke.

Hope to see you there!
